April is the National Child Abuse Awareness Month. The Hampton Child Protection Team will be hosting a Blue Candle Light Service to remember Hampton children who have been victims of abuse and neglect. This year's ceremony will take place on Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at 6:00pm at the First United Methodist Church-100 East Queen Street, Hampton,(across the street from the former "Radisson", now Hampton Marina Hotel).
Please come out for this very moving ceremony in which the audience participates in and show your support for all children who are and have experienced abuse and neglect either by the hands or through the hands of those they love unconditionally.
The Hampton Child Protection Team was founded in 1975 to meet the needs of abused and neglected children in the City of Hampton. The Blue Ribbon Campaign was started by a Virginia grandmother back in the spring of 1989, whose 3 year old grandchild was killed at the hands of his mother's abusive boyfriend. Since then, people have worn the "blue ribbon" as a symbol to prevent child abuse and neglect.
It takes a whole community to prevent child abuse and if your heart breaks every time you hear about a child being neglected or abused, and you wondered how or what you could do to help, now is your chance to become a part of our efforts in preventing child abuse and neglect through public awareness and education. Please visit our website for more information on how to join. We look forward to having you on our team and we welcome you with open arms. Our website: www.hcpt.net or hcpt@hcpt.net or call (757)788-3878 if you would prefer to speak to a live person.

Deb/Debbie/Deborah and Henry Melvin, please let people know you changed your phone number. It has been months, I don't know who you are, but I'm sick of getting your phone calls. We already had to change our phone number once because of bogus calls, I don't want to have to do it again. If you know the Melvins - don't call them, they changed their phone number - and tell them to update everyone they know!

My wife Angela needs some well deserved pampering for all the things that she does for me. My name is Sean Gotz and my wife Angela and I will be married three years in May. We were married on my two week leave while I was deployed overseas in 2005. A month after I came home, Angela noticed that I was having problems adjusting to normal life again. After seeking some help I was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and given a 100% disability rating from both Veteran Affairs and Social Security. I suffer from severe anxiety, anger and also have problems with short and long term memory loss. Angela, who is not military, has spend hundreds of hours while juggling work and finishing her degree in social work trying to get me through the medical discharge process in the Army, and making sure I receive the care I need, in addition to taking care of all of our day-to-day affairs. We have just recently moved here to Hampton from Winona, Minnesota to be closer to a VA medical center where we spend several times a week seeing different health care professionals. I say we because she needs to accompany me to most of my appointments because of my memory problems. During these last few months Angela has sacrificed a lot, working full time taking care of me as well as helping me get familiar with the area, and household tasks, all this while trying to find a job so we can pay our bills. My disability has left me unable to in turn show her my love, and to also take care of her needs. There is not a lot I can do to show her how I appreciate everything that she does, I would be very grateful if you would consider giving Angela the pampering I am unable to provide.

I was pregnant and thrilled! However, one unexpected and unwelcome change was headaches & back pain. Two-thirds of pregnant women experience lower back pain, heartburn, & headaches. I heard my pregnant friends complaining about similar symptom but no one had an answer. Luckily my obstetrician suggested seeing a chiropractor her knew. Dr. Corey Carwile performed a complete examination and determined the correct course of painless treatment. My headaches and lower back pain ended almost immediately. Chiropractic care is a good alternative to over-the-counter and prescription drugs for back pain and headaches while you’re pregnant. Since a chiropractor manipulates the spine to ease back pain, there is no medication involved, making it a safe and more natural form of relief. If you are worried about the safety of the procedure, rest assured that many studies have found there to be no risk to either mother or baby when a trained professional does spinal and neck manipulation. I’ve learned now that even before you become pregnant, a chiropractor can help you prepare. They properly assess your body and diagnose any already existing imbalances in your pelvis or elsewhere that may increase your discomfort during pregnancy. After my pregnancy, my chiropractor treated me to help ensure that my stretched out joints and loosened ligaments got back into their proper places. He also recommended stretching and doing safe, gentle exercises that will help prevent recurrences of lower back pain while I’m lifting my new healthy baby boy. While I was pregnant my original symptoms would subside for several weeks and when they returned I’d visit Dr. Carwile again to “set me straight”. Those visits were comfortable, affordable and helpful. I would suggest Chiropractic care to anyone having discomfort during their pregnancy. The Doctor I used was Dr. Corey Carwile located in the Oyster Point section of Newport News. His office number is 757-873-8483.

Planner explains trail system during clean business forum
Donald Whipple, senior planner for the city of Hampton, gives the program “Newmarket Creek Park & Trail System: Leading to Hampton’s Future” at 8 a.m. Feb. 28 in the Clarion Hotel, 1809 W. Mercury Blvd., Hampton. His program is sponsored by the Virginia Peninsula Clean Business Forum, a regional quarterly gathering of businesses and governmental agencies interested in promoting good environmental practices in area workplaces. Registration is $12 per person, checks to be made payable to “City of Hampton” and mailed to Hampton Clean City Commission, 1296 Thomas Street, Hampton VA 23669. Feb. 21 is registration deadline. The forum will include the presentation of Clean Business Awards to businesses from Hampton, James City County, Newport News and York County. The Clean Business Awards recognize those workplaces that exemplify good environmental business practices that include litter prevention and control, waste recycling and minimization, and beautiful Bay-friendly landscapes. The forum is sponsored by the following local clean community organizations: Hampton Clean City Commission, James City Clean County Commission, Newport News Recycling Office, and York County Beautification & Recycling Committee. For more information about the Virginia Peninsula Clean Business Forum or the Hampton Clean City Commission’s Business, Industry, & Governmental Agencies Committee, contact Hampton Clean City Commission at hccc@hampton.gov or call 727-1130.

I luv Hampton because of the diversity of people in the city. I have always felt comfortable and people are warm rather your at Deen Day's or Movie at the Beach. You run into the kindest and most interesting people.

I love your paper. I started reading it because a friend did a story in it. I am now addicted. I make sure I get one each week. Keep up the great work. It's interesting to read something different rather than the same old stuff about politics, what the city is or isn't doing right. That gets old. Thanks for giving us something new !!!

I made the recipe for Sabrosa Meatloaf. It was the easiest meatloaf ever and it was SO good. I give it a thumbs up! There was even salsa leftover. We ate that with out salad. I can't wait to try another.
