April is the National Child Abuse Awareness Month. The Hampton Child
Protection Team will be hosting a Blue Candle Light Service to
remember Hampton children who have been victims of abuse and neglect.
This year's ceremony will take place on Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at
6:00pm at the First United Methodist Church-100 East Queen Street,
Hampton,(across the street from the former "Radisson", now Hampton
Marina Hotel).
Please come out for this very moving ceremony in which the audience
participates in and show your support for all children who are and
have experienced abuse and neglect either by the hands or through the
hands of those they love unconditionally.
The Hampton Child Protection Team was founded
in 1975 to meet the needs of abused and neglected children in the City
of Hampton.
The Blue Ribbon Campaign was started by a Virginia grandmother back
in the spring of 1989, whose 3 year old grandchild was killed at the
hands of his mother's abusive boyfriend. Since then, people have worn
the "blue ribbon" as a symbol to prevent child abuse and neglect.
It takes a whole community to prevent child abuse and if your heart
breaks every time you hear about a child being neglected or abused,
and you wondered how or what you could do to help, now is your chance
to become a part of our efforts in preventing child abuse and neglect
through public awareness and education. Please visit our website for
more information on how to join. We look forward to having you on our
team and we welcome you with open arms. Our website: www.hcpt.net or
hcpt@hcpt.net or call (757)788-3878 if you would prefer to speak to a
live person.
